I have an infestation of garter snakes in my yard they are too close for comfort how do i get them to move on?

i dont want them dead i just wish they would stay off my deck and out of walkways they have no concept of personal space we usually see a few over the summer but this year its at least 2 sightings per day what could i use to deter them they are ruining our outdoor time we don't enjoy the yard and garden and rubber boots leave bad tan lines we live in nb canada
